Illinois Neurodiversity Initiative Supports
INI supports were selected after four years of research and pilot programming. They are thoughtfully designed to promote success at each stage of the college journey. We prioritize mental health and community/inclusion above all else while promoting academics and success after graduation.
ACADEMIC

- HDFS 102 Academic Strategies- REQUIRED for all first-years
- Individual academic check-ins (every 4 weeks)
- Required weekly study halls with staffed accountability and support
- Individual executive function intervention as needed
*It is highly recommended that all INI students apply for DRES accommodations

MENTAL HEALTH
- Weekly mental health coaching available to all students
- Neurodiverse-affirming service providers*
- Monthly mental health check-ins
- Mental health plan tailored to student needs
*Students to show proof of care by mental health provider of choice
SOCIAL CONNECTION

- I-N-I social gathering every Wednesday night
- Dinner, fun, and (a little) learning
- Bi-directional mentoring with trained mentors
- Leadership training in self-and neurodiversity advocacy
- Confidence-building activities to reduce social stress

EMPLOYMENT
- Employment & leadership-focused INI courses
- Industry relationships with industry partners who value neurodivergent talent
- Exposure to internship opportunities
- Job-seeking preparation
- Summer internships and workforce experience
